The Jones Fightin' Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Oviedo Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Jones sitting on six straight victories and Oviedo on seven.
Jones can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They blew past Dr. Phillips, posting a 37-10 victory at home. Given Jones' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Dr. Phillips is ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jerrian Parker was on fire: he rushed for 216 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.3 yards per carry. Vernell Brown iii did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 146 receiving yards.
Jones' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. In that department, D?antre Robinson was the leader with three sacks.
Meanwhile, Oviedo can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They breezed by Hagerty at home to the tune of 48-14. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Oviedo had established a 26 point advantage.
Among those leading the charge was Jackson Latour, who threw for 304 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.4% of his passes. Latour is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kevin Watson, who gained 155 total yards and a touchdown.
Jones pushed their record up to 7-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Cypress Creek and 4-6 Wekiva (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.5% over those games). As for Oviedo, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Jones has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 421.2 total yards per game. However, it's not like Oviedo struggles in that department as they've been even better at 479 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them. Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other football content.
Everything came up roses for Jones against Oviedo in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 49-19 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jones since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
