Softball Recap: Johnson Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

Johnson won the last time they faced Burbank and things went their way on Friday too. The Warriors blew past the Titans 18-1. Considering the Warriors have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Anissa Zavala was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other pitching news, Kayla Madison and DeAhjanuque Salter dominated on the mound. Madison went 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Salter went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Valicianna Collins-Hogan, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Clarissa Aceves-Fonseca, who earned two RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Johnson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .455 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Johnson is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Burbank, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Johnson will face off against rival Armijo at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Burbank is set to challenge their familiar foe Florin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
