Edison and Mount Vernon are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Eagles will take on the Majors at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Edison knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Mount Vernon likes a good challenge.
Edison fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Hayfield on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 11-10. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Sam Roeschlein was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Nathan Roeschlein and John Dobson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Roeschlein went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Dobson got on base in five of his six plate appearances with five RBI and one run. That double was Roeschlein's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Potts, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Mount Vernon scored first but ultimately less than Annandale in their contest on Friday. They fell just short of the Atoms by a score of 4-3.
Mount Vernon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Torres, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Mount Vernon now has a losing record of 10-11. As for Edison, their record now sits at 11-7-1.
Mount Vernon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Edison hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. It's a different story for Mount Vernon, though, as they've only averaged .243. Will they be able to contain Edison's hitters?
Everything went Edison's way against Mount Vernon in their previous matchup back in April, as Edison made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
