1A Tri-Peaks recap Sept. 26, 2012
Buena Vista's Keegan Wentz recorded the longest rushing play in 1A Tri-Peaks this season in his game against Salida last week. Wentz scampered for 91 yards on the play and finished with 91 on the day as his team topped the Spartans.
Buena Vista extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Salida, 58-0. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Demons.
Koby Close put up the best numbers through the air as Buena Vista beat the Spartans. He finished with a total of seven completions for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Close's favorite target this week was Trevor Close, who caught two passes for 41 yards.
Close made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Demons topped Salida. The 6-foot-0 sophomore pulled down one interception.
Jim Kenney provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Colorado Springs Christian defeated Peyton. He completed one pass for 26 yards and also ran for 198 yards. Kenney's favorite target this week was TJ Stockton, who caught five passes for 110 yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback Dan Kenney of the Lions is the league leader in passing yards this season with 425. He has also thrown four touchdowns. On the ground, the Panthers' Tyler Lashley has rushed for 607 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dan Logar. The Peyton star has eight catches for 209 yards.
A big matchup in 1A Tri-Peaks this week will be when Rye takes on Buena Vista. As it stands, the Thunderbolts are in third, while the Demons are in first.
Colorado Springs Christian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to fifth in the league. Earlier in the week, Jay Kersey's team triumphed over Peyton 35-14.
