While Park Crossing put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Southside. The Thunderbirds were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Panthers. Considering the Thunderbirds have won seven matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
I JOHNSON and C MAYO, JR were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, JOHNSON tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, MAYO, JR tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At the plate, JOHNSON went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base, while MAYO, JR got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Park Crossing is undefeated when MAYO, JR posts two or more stolen bases, but 7-12 otherwise.
In other batting news, M SMITH, JR was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Park Crossing: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-12 otherwise. N HARRINGTON also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Park Crossing always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .783. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win made it two in a row for Park Crossing and bumps their season record up to 10-12. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Southside, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-4.
Park Crossing does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Southside, they will face off against Flomaton at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hurricanes have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
