Jocelyn Scarbury made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Hailey Rudrick was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Brooke Dovenbarger was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Mt. Vernon lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Big Walnut only launched one home run.
Meanwhile, Watkins Memorial beat Westerville Central 6-1 on Friday.
The team relied heavily on Paisley Conley, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyliee Trouten, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Mt. Vernon pushed their record up to 24-2 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Watkins Memorial, their victory bumped their record up to 16-10.
Everything went Mt. Vernon's way against Watkins Memorial when the teams last played back in April, as Mt. Vernon made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
