After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Ridgeland, the Callaway Chargers were happy to have found some success on Friday. They took down Vicksburg 68-54. For Callaway, this counts as revenge for the 65-47 defeat Vicksburg walked away with the last time they faced one another on January 2nd.
Callaway's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Javarian Mallard led the charge by scoring eight points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Taylor, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Callaway's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-12. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Vicksburg, their defeat ended a 11-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Callaway won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Central Hinds Academy on January 20th. Central Hinds Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 168th, while Callaway is ranked 49th). As for Vicksburg, they will head out on the road to challenge Columbus at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
