Crown Point and Valparaiso are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will square off against the Vikings on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Crown Point sitting on eight straight victories and Valparaiso on 16.
Crown Point is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They came out on top against Lake Central by a score of 7-2.
Logan Johnston looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sean Dunlap was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Langhans, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Valparaiso made easy work of Portage on Monday and carried off a 16-2 win. Considering the Vikings have won 16 matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Caden Crowell made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Crowell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Valparaiso got a massive performance out of Adler Holtz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave Holtz a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maximus Reaume, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-4.
Valparaiso was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Crown Point's record is now 27-4. As for Valparaiso, their record now sits at 22-5.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Crown Point has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .487. However, it's not like Valparaiso struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Crown Point skirted past Valparaiso 1-0 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
