Avery County is 10-0 against the Patriots since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Avery County Vikings will be staying on the road to face off against the Madison Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Avery County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
Last Friday, Avery County came up short against the Cougars and fell 48-40. While losing is never fun, Avery County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while the Cougars are ranked 40th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Zoie Mcclarrin, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Reagan Greer was another key contributor, scoring six points along with three blocks.
Meanwhile, Madison suffered a tough 75-51 loss at the hands of the Wildcats on Friday. Madison has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Avery County's record is now 11-9. Madison's record now sits at 9-12.
Avery County strolled past the Patriots when the teams last played back in January by a score of 63-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Avery County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
