Softball Recap: Westside Has No Trouble Against Bartlett

Westside was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Bartlett on Saturday. Westside put the hurt on Bartlett with a sharp 7-1 victory. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

Mckyna Craig was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

Craig wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Vada Watkins, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Westside's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Bartlett, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Looking ahead, Westside will host Trumann at 4:30 p.m. on the 31st. Westside is facing Trumann at the right time seeing as Trumann is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Bartlett, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Bartlett Panthers duke it out with Munford Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Their pitchers better be ready for this one: Munford has averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season.
