Bruce is 9-1 against Water Valley since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Bruce is taking a road trip to take on Water Valley at 6:30 p.m. Bruce will be strutting in after a victory while Water Valley will be coming in after a loss.
Bruce will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs last Monday, then bounced right back against Palmer on Thursday. Bruce put the hurt on Palmer with a sharp 20-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won four in a row.
Sammie Gunter was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Bruce got a massive performance out of Addi Bailey, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Sadie Box, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2.
Bruce was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .714. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Water Valley's offense. They lost 15-0 to Calhoun City on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Blue Devils' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Water Valley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryley Hill, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.
Water Valley's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-9. As for Bruce, their record now sits at 8-9.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Bruce has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .548. However, it's not like Water Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .571. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bruce took their win against Water Valley in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 12-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bruce since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
