Baseball Recap: Calallen Finds Playoff Glory Versus El Campo

With a playoff win on the line, Calallen rose to the challenge on Friday. They didn't even let the El Campo Ricebirds on the board, marking their second-straight 21-0 shutout. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 20 games by six runs or more this season.

Collier Carroll looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Calallen got a massive performance out of Jaydon Cruz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave Cruz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Quinn, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Calallen, bringing their record up to 31-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for El Campo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 20-10-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Calallen beat the Ricebirds by a score of 3-2 on Saturday.
