William Penn hasn't had much luck against Red Lion recently, but that could start to change on Monday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as William Penn Bearcats duke it out with Red Lion Lions at 4:15 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
William Penn came up short against Central York on Friday, falling 20-10.
Angel Vargas and Roosevert Ramos did some serious damage despite the final result: Vargas scored a run while going 2-for-2, while Ramos went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Melky Diaz, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Red Lion not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 24, 2024. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Spring Grove a 10-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Rockets: they've now won nine in a row.
Connor Lawrence made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Red Lion let Steven Bowman and Jack Slack run wild. Bowman scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Slack went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave Slack a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryder Pamepinto, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Red Lion always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spring Grove only posted an OBP of .190.
The victory got Red Lion back to even at 1-1. As for William Penn, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
William Penn might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Red Lion when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can William Penn avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
