With a playoff win on the line, Point Loma rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders 41-7. The Pointers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by 22 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Point Loma to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ryder Watson, who rushed for 49 yards and one score. That's the most rushing yards Watson has posted since back in August. Romeo Carter did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 88 receiving yards.
Point Loma didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Chase Thomas, Carter, and Ace Selchow picked up one apiece. Thomas got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Point Loma's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 5.4 points on average over those games. As for Mater Dei Catholic, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-4.
Looking ahead, Point Loma will challenge San Marcos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mater Dei Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
