Dekaney hasn't had much luck against Spring recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Dekaney Wildcats duke it out with Spring Lions at 5:00 p.m. Dekaney has given up an average of 18.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Dekaney lost 15-4 to Eisenhower last Friday.
Zoe Trevi?o made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Benitez, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Spring entered their tilt with MacArthur last Friday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over the Generals.
Mikayla Zepeda spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hailey Jones-Calais, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Xaida Bettis, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Spring hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Spring pushed their record up to 6-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Dekaney, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 3-3.
Spring's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Dekaney has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Spring, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Dekaney's sizable advantage in that area, Spring will need to find a way to close that gap.
Dekaney suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Spring when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will Dekaney have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
