Trinity is 8-2 against Providence Grove since January of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Trinity Bulldogs will host the Providence Grove Patriots at 7:30 p.m. Trinity has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since November 26.
Trinity saw some tournament action on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 61-60 to Southwestern Randolph.
Despite their loss, Trinity saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Walker Parrish, who posted 22 points, was perhaps the best of all. Parrish continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nazir Staton, who earned 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Providence Grove suffered their biggest defeat since February 9, 2024 on Saturday. They came up short against Leadership Academy, falling 70-48. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while the Falcons are ranked 190th).
Trinity will have to contain Will Dabbs as he made an impact in Providence Grove's last game. He had 20 points and five steals. The contest was Dabbs' seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Stephen Beeson, who put up eight points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Providence Grove smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.
Trinity's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Providence Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Trinity has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.3 boards per game. However, it's not like Providence Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Trinity against Providence Grove when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 79-51 victory. Will Trinity repeat their success, or does Providence Grove have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
