Dennis-Yarmouth Regional is 2-8 against Sandwich since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Dolphins will face off against the Blue Knights at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Dennis-Yarmouth Regional 3.9, Sandwich 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Wednesday, Dennis-Yarmouth Regional didn't have quite enough to beat Nauset Regional and fell 3-2. The Dolphins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Gavin Desley was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Desley was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Desley wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Eldredge, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Eldredge is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Hudson Cambal was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Sandwich came tearing into Monday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Green Wave.
James Lehane was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Damian King also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Sandwich's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Dennis-Yarmouth Regional, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 10-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dennis-Yarmouth Regional has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sandwich struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Dennis-Yarmouth Regional couldn't quite finish off Sandwich in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Dolphins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
