The South Newton Rebels will head out on the road to face off against the Donovan Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully South Newton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, South Newton beat the Tigers 44-34. The win was just what South Newton needed coming off of a 57-23 loss in their prior matchup.
South Newton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chayse Stillabower, who scored 11 points along with five steals. Stillabower is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Matthew Armstrong, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Even though Donovan has not done well against the Bearcats recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Donovan strolled past the Bearcats with points to spare, taking the game 68-49.
Griffen Walters continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Ty Miller was another key contributor, almost dropping a triple-double on nine points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.
South Newton's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-12. As for Donovan, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-14 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: South Newton have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Donovan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for South Newton against the Wildcats in their previous meeting back in February of 2022 as the squad secured a 66-30 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Newton since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
