The McCook Bison scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 66-64 victory over North Platte. The win was a breath of fresh air for McCook as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
When it comes to explaining why North Platte lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jesse Mauch. Despite the final result, he scored 25 points along with six rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Mauch grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Joneson, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
McCook's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for North Platte, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.
McCook will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Ogallala at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Ogallala presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than McCook in Nebraska (Ogallala is ranked fifth, while McCook is ranked 110th). North Platte won't have much time to rest: their next game is against York at 3:30 p.m. on January 20th. York will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
