Baseball Recap: Whitley County Sets Scoring Season-High Against Williamsburg

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Whitley County). They never let the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Colonels have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

EJ Allen was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

In other pitching news, Trey Walton looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in 12 consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, RJ Osborne was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jason Nunley, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Whitley County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Williamsburg only posted a batting average of .091.

Whitley County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Williamsburg, they are on a 16-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-19.

Whitley County will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Yellow Jackets: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
