The Cuthbertson Cavaliers can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They had just enough and edged Weddington out 37-35. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Cuthbertson has posted yet this season.
Cuthbertson found their leader in underclassman Christian Mundy, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Mundy pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Christian Johnson, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Madison Motto, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and two steals. Motto hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Natalie Poole was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
Cuthbertson's victory bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Weddington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-6.
Cuthbertson will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Porter Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Porter Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cuthbertson in North Carolina (Porter Ridge is ranked 53rd, while Cuthbertson is ranked 253rd). As for Weddington, they will be playing at home against Sun Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sun Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday.
