Basketball Recap: Valeria Castellanos Key Part of a Team Effort in Lobos Win

Patagonia won the last time they faced Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Patagonia Lobos walked away with a 39-29 victory over the Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind Sentinels. The Lobos didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this win makes it their second in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Patagonia to victory, but perhaps none more so than Valeria Castellanos, who posted eight points along with 11 boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Castellanos a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brianna Majalca, who put up nine points and three steals.

Patagonia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind only pulled down two offensive boards.

Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Emily Marquez, who earned eight points. Isabell Tena also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Patagonia is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 4-12 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to assists: they averaged an imposing 5.38 assists in those games compared to only 5.38 in the others. As for Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Patagonia has already played their next contest, a 33-32 victory against Ray on the 25th. As for Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 59-16 loss against Valley Union on the 24th.
