The Assumption Rockets are taking a road trip to challenge the Seneca Red Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Assumption's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
Assumption is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: Notre Dame Academy, who was ranked ninth at the time (Assumption was ranked 12th). Assumption secured a 57-53 W over Notre Dame Academy on Tuesday.
Assumption's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Se'Rae Palmer, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 13 points in addition to five assists and five steals. That's the most assists Palmer has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyleigh Hall, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards.
Meanwhile, Seneca hadn't done well against Brown recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Seneca snuck past Brown with a 49-43 win.
Assumption better focus on containing Arionna Tunstall and Janell Julue as the pair were huge in Seneca's win. Tunstall dropped a double-double with 20 points and 20 rebounds, while Julue dropped a double-double with 14 points and 17 boards. Tunstall's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 20 points. Another player making a difference was Anari Shelton, who earned six points and five rebounds.
Seneca smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive matches.
Seneca has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. As for Assumption, their record now sits at 19-5.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Assumption hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 58.4 points per game. It's a different story for Seneca, though, as they've been averaging only 38.5 points. The only thing between Assumption and another offensive beatdown is Seneca. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything came up roses for Assumption against Seneca in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as the team secured a 74-29 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Assumption since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
