Basketball Game Preview: North Vermillion Falcons vs. Dugger Union Bulldogs

The North Vermillion Falcons will face off against the Dugger Union Bulldogs at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Thursday, North Vermillion came up short against Fountain Central and fell 41-28. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Nora Thomann, who posted eight points in addition to ten boards and four steals. Thomann is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Bean, who went 5 for 7 on her way to 11 points.

Meanwhile, Dugger Union was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell just short of Rock Creek Academy by a score of 38-36. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bulldogs have suffered since January 6th.

Like Dugger Union, they lost despite seeing results from several players. Jordyn Smith led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. That was a full 44.4% of Dugger Union's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Sage Stahl was another key player, putting up seven points along with 14 boards and three steals.

North Vermillion's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Dugger Union, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Everything came up roses for North Vermillion against Dugger Union when the teams last played back in December of 2023, as the squad secured a 50-7 win. Will North Vermillion repeat their success, or does Dugger Union have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
