Foothill and Granada are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Falcons will face off against the Matadors at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Foothill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Foothill lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Livermore, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's matchup. The Falcons put the hurt on the Cowboys with a sharp 16-6 win on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Falcons considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Sophia Burdick and Ellie Novitske did most of the damage at the plate: Burdick went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and one stolen base, while Novitske got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Novitske has posted since back in March. Brea Olsen also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Foothill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Livermore only posted an OBP of .481.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Granada sidestepped Dublin for a 10-8 victory. The Matadors haven't had any issues with the Gaels recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Delaney Aumua, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Alicia Mitre was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Foothill's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Granada, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.
Granada's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Foothill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. It's a different story for Granada, though, as they've only averaged .364. Will they be able to contain Foothill's hitters?
Foothill came out on top in a nail-biter against Granada in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
