The North Phoenix Preparatory Academy Gladiators's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. Their tough 49-29 defeat to Mayer might stick with them for a while. The result was an unpleasant reminder to North Phoenix Preparatory Academy of the 35-12 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Despite the defeat, North Phoenix Preparatory Academy had strong showings from Ellaina Wakeham, who scored four points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks, and Sabrina Daniel, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Wakeham has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Alexandra Price was another key contributor, scoring three points along with 12 rebounds and four blocks.
Even though they lost, North Phoenix Preparatory Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Danni McCann, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 20 steals for Mayer. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which McCann has scored at least a third of Mayer's points. Another player making a difference was Taylor McCann, who scored six points along with eight steals and five rebounds.
North Phoenix Preparatory Academy dropped their record down to 2-18 with that loss, which was their 11th straight at home. As for Mayer, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-13-1.
North Phoenix Preparatory Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mayer and the Frogs will face off at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Salome is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 11 games.
