The Coventry Patriots will head out to square off against the Somers Spartans at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Coventry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
While Coventry's victory against Rockville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Patriots had just enough and edged out the Rams 10-9 on Tuesday. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Mather Spear was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. Coventry is undefeated when Spear posts three or more RBI, but 2-3 otherwise. Dustin Menzel was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Coventry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Somers won against Bolton on Wednesday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Spartans beat Cheney Tech by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-4. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by six runs or more this season.
Somers got a massive performance out of Will Accorsi, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that Accorsi has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Brandon Damboragian, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Somers now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Coventry, their record is now 5-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Coventry has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Somers struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Coventry was able to grind out a solid victory over Somers in their previous matchup back in June of 2024, winning 4-0. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
