The Arcadia Firebirds will take on the Holly Grove Christian Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Arcadia will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Nandua on Tuesday. The Firebirds put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 15-1 win.
Ryann Giddens made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Arcadia let Brinlee Kauthen and Megan Montross run wild. Kauthen went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple, while Montross went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Montross a new career-high. Payton Taylor was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Arcadia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Holly Grove Christian never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Salisbury Christian last Wednesday. They blew past Salisbury Christian 29-7. The Eagles haven't had any issues with Salisbury Christian recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Brynna Travis was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Travis was even better at the plate, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, six RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Cassidy Hickman and Aubrey Rolleston did most of the damage at the plate: Hickman got on base in all six of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, seven RBI, and four runs, while Rolleston got on base in five of her seven plate appearances with six runs, three stolen bases, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Dunn, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Holly Grove Christian's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Arcadia, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Arcadia has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. However, it's not like Holly Grove Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .581. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Arcadia took their win against Holly Grove Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-5 score. Will the Firebirds repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
