The third road match was the charm for The Sidwell Friends Quakers, as they earned their first road win of the season. They came out on top against St. John's Catholic Prep by a score of 27-19 on Friday. Given Sidwell Friends' advantage in MaxPreps's football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 20th in District of Columbia, while St. John's Catholic Prep is ranked 186th in Maryland), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sidwell Friends to victory, but perhaps none more so than Clayton Gary, who picked up 215 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Gary's longest reception was for an incredible 81 yards. Another player making a difference was Tanner Breslin, who threw for 228 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes.
Despite the loss, St. John's Catholic Prep still got an impressive performance from Zion Ntemi, who rushed for 289 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. Shane Meyer was another key contributor, throwing for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
Sidwell Friends' victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for St. John's Catholic Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sidwell Friends will take on Digital Pioneers Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for St. John's Catholic Prep, they will stay at home for another week and welcome Annapolis Area Christian at 6:00 p.m. on November 3rd.
