Buckeye is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will host the Desert Edge Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. Buckeye knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Desert Edge likes a good challenge.
Last Wednesday, Buckeye got the win against North by a conclusive 15-5. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Caleila Kaluna was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Kaluna was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Madison Blackwell was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jazlene Barrios, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Desert Edge was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They came up short against Chaparral, falling 18-1.
Desert Edge saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aliyah Fatigoni (2027), who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was Fatigoni (2027)'s first of the season.
Buckeye's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Desert Edge, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Buckeye has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .474. However, it's not like Desert Edge struggles in that department as they've averaged .523. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Buckeye took their victory against Desert Edge in their previous meeting on Saturday by a conclusive 17-9. Does Buckeye have another victory up their sleeve, or will Desert Edge turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
