After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Leon, the Itasca Wampus Cats were happy to have found some success on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 44-42 win over Hillsboro. For Itasca, this counts as revenge for the 51-38 defeat Hillsboro walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Hillsboro's loss came despite strong showings from Callie Tucker and Madeline Avila. Tucker scored 14 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals, while Avila scored 11 points along with 7 steals and 5 rebounds. Avila hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Itasca's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Hillsboro, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Itasca will be playing at home against Mart at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mart's defense has only allowed 27.7 points per game this season, so Itasca's offense will have their work cut out for Itasca. As for Hillsboro, they will head out on the road to face off against China Spring at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. China Spring is on a four-game streak of home losses, Hillsboro a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
