The Adams City Eagles pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a rough 79-56 loss at the hands of Gateway. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Adams City has suffered against Gateway since January 29, 2021.
Despite the loss, Adams City still got an impressive performance from Jalen Mckinnies, who scored 16 points along with two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Zak Ahmed, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Gateway's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaiemion Ashley led the charge by scoring 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Ashley pulled down eight or more rebounds. Hayden Von Boeckman was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with six assists.
Adams City dropped their record down to 6-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Gateway, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Adams City and Thornton will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Thornton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Adams City likes a good challenge. As for Gateway, they will head out on the road to take on Far Northeast W at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Far Northeast W comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
