The Mater Academy Charter Lions waltzed into their game on Wednesday with five straight wins but they left with six. They secured a 67-63 W over Divine Savior Academy. The win was all the more spectacular given Mater Academy Charter's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 314th, while Divine Savior Academy is ranked 140th).
Mater Academy Charter got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Alex Valencia out in front who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 2 assists. Another player making a difference was Ethan Davis, who scored 21 points along with two blocks.
Mater Academy Charter has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Divine Savior Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.
Mater Academy Charter won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Coral Gables at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Coral Gables focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight last Monday. As for Divine Savior Academy, they will square off against Piper at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.
