High Point Academy is a perfect 5-0 against Brashier Middle College Charter since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Grizzlies will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bengal at 6:00 p.m. High Point Academy has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight defeats, while Brashier Middle College Charter will come in with three straight wins.
Blacksburg hit High Point Academy with a five-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Grizzlies fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 8-7.
Alyx Creel was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ella Zhuk, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Brashier Middle College Charter sidestepped Laurens Academy for a 6-5 victory.
Kaylee Coker was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those 15 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Burton, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to doubles, as she's now hit two or more in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Jones, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Brashier Middle College Charter's win bumped their record up to 8-13. As for High Point Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.
High Point Academy took their victory against Brashier Middle College Charter when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 9-1 score. Do the Grizzlies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bengal turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
