After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Breese Central, the Roxana Shells were happy to have found some success on Monday. They really took it to Gillespie for the full four quarters, racking up a 69-42 victory on the road. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Roxana considering their 25-point performance the match before.
Chris Walleck was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Briggs, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds.
Roxana has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 15-10 record this season. As for Gillespie, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 15 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season.
Roxana won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lebanon at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. Lebanon will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 705th, while Roxana is ranked 235th). As for Gillespie, they will head out on the road to take on Greenville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Greenville is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
