Red Bud is a perfect 5-0 against Gibault Catholic since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Musketeers will venture away from home to take on the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. Red Bud is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
While Red Bud's victory against Okawville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Musketeers skirted past the Rockets 7-6. The win continues a trend for the Musketeers in their matchups with the Rockets: they've now won four in a row.
Olivia Geralds spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Julia Whelan, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Ava Wagner was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-5.
Red Bud was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gibault Catholic). They never let Althoff Catholic get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Chloe Lancaster made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, Gibault Catholic let Molly Steibel and Lauren Lanham run wild. Steibel scored four runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Lanham scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave Steibel a new career-high. Lily Bollman also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Red Bud's record is now 8-3. As for Gibault Catholic, their record now sits at 5-6.
Gibault Catholic's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Red Bud has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Gibault Catholic, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Red Bud's sizable advantage in that area, the Hawks will need to find a way to close that gap.
Red Bud took their victory against Gibault Catholic when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 20-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Musketeers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
