Arroyo is 8-0 against South El Monte since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Arroyo Knights are on the road again and play against the South El Monte Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on October 20th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, Arroyo really took it to Mountain View for the full four quarters, racking up a 63-14 victory on the road. With Arroyo ahead 56-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Arroyo can attribute much of their success to Dillon Seguin, who threw for 95 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and Kurt Dominguez, who picked up 46 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Romeo Arevalo also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, South El Monte put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Gabrielino 35-7 at home. South El Monte pushed the score to 28-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Gabrielino had little chance of recovering from.
South El Monte's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angel Valladares, who rushed for 52 yards and three touchdowns. Matthew Medina was another key contributor, throwing for 228 yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Arroyo to 4-4 and South El Monte to 8-0.
Everything came up roses for Arroyo against South El Monte in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 43-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Arroyo since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
