Reed is a perfect 10-0 against Damonte Ranch since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Raiders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 10:00 a.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Reed is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Douglas, who was ranked 25th at the time (Reed was ranked sixth). The Raiders put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 25-15 victory on Tuesday. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Damonte Ranch). Everything went their way against Carson on Tuesday as they made off with a 26-1 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Mustangs with their most commanding win of the season.
Damonte Ranch got a great performance from Angie Gomez as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Samantha Tapia and Alyssa Dow did most of the damage at the plate: Tapia went 4-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles, while Dow went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave Dow a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabela Valdez, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs and two RBI.
Damonte Ranch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .646. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carson only posted an OBP of .222.
Damonte Ranch's win bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Reed, their victory bumped their record up to 21-7.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Reed has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .487. However, it's not like Damonte Ranch struggles in that department as they've averaged .482. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Reed beat Damonte Ranch 4-0 when the teams last played on April 4th. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
