The Craigmont Chiefs were the 49-40 winner over the Brighton Cardinals when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Craigmont took a hard 43-27 fall against Brighton on Friday. Craigmont has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Craigmont lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jala Wilson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 37% of Craigmont's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was M.H. H, who scored five points.
Even though they lost, Craigmont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brighton only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Brighton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jayla Jones, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Da'lyjah Maclin was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Craigmont has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Brighton, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Craigmont will take on Millington Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Millington Central is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games. As for Brighton, they will head out on the road to face off against Raleigh-Egypt at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Raleigh-Egypt has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 29.
