The Morse Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Mira Mesa Marauders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, Morse was beaten by Point Loma 38-6. While losing is never fun, Morse can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 503rd, while Point Loma is ranked 209th).
Meanwhile, Mira Mesa's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They came out on top against Christian by a score of 28-19. The victory was just what Mira Mesa needed coming off of a 50-10 defeat in their prior match.
Tyson Line got back to being his usual excellent self, as he threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Chris Brown did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 117 receiving yards and a touchdown.
This is the second loss in a row for Morse and nudges their season record down to 4-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-2 La Jolla (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 68.9% over those games). As for Mira Mesa, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
Morse was dealt a bruising 28-0 loss at the hands of Mira Mesa when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Thankfully for Morse, Alex Zappia (who threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
