Nicholas County has gone 8-2 against Clay County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Grizzlies will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Nicholas County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Nicholas County barely beat Greenbrier West the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Grizzlies' pitchers stepped up to hand the Cavaliers a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Grizzlies haven't had any issues with the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Caleb Burns made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Nicholas County is 4-1 when Burns posts three or more hits, but 9-10 otherwise.
In other batting news, Lucas Milam and Colton Burkhammer did most of the damage at the plate: Milam went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Burkhammer went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI. Milam is becoming a predictor of Nicholas County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-11 when he doesn't). Caleb Jarvis was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Nicholas County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenbrier West only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, Clay County hadn't done well against South Harrison recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Hawks. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by just one run.
Nicholas County's victory bumped their record up to 13-11. As for Clay County, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Nicholas County took their victory against Clay County when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 13-1 score. Will the Grizzlies repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
