The Portal Panthers waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Vidalia by a score of 64-55. Given Portal's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Vidalia is ranked 136th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Amir Jackson was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of David Thomas, who scored 19 points.
Portal's victory was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for Vidalia, their loss dropped their record down to 13-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Portal and McIntosh County Academy will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. McIntosh County Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 219 points over their last three contests. As for Vidalia, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Appling County at 7:30 p.m. Appling County comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
