The Brookfield Bobcats will take on the Ledyard Colonels on Wednesday. Brookfield is coming into the game hot, having won their last 16 games.
Brookfield is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: St. Paul Catholic, who was ranked 11th at the time (Brookfield was ranked second). The Bobcats had just enough and edged out the Falcons 5-4.
Lila Conrad made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Samantha Aurrichio was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Emma Ferguson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Ledyard had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over Guilford on Monday. Considering the Colonels have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Brookfield, Ledyard also got a great game from a two-way player: Alexia Lemmon. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Lemmon was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ledyard got a massive performance out of Julia Bonser, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most runs Bonser has posted since back in May. Mia Starling was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Ledyard hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.
Ledyard's win bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Brookfield, their victory bumped their record up to 23-1.
