Basketball Recap: Archbishop Mccarthy Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Archbishop McCarthy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 51-48 win over the Donahue Catholic Shamrocks. 51 seems to be a good number for the Mavericks as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Donahue Catholic's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Veronica Halisky, who posted 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven blocks. Halisky is becoming a predictor of Donahue Catholic's success: when she posts at least three blocks the team is 7-1 (and 3-4 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Camille Kelly, who had 13 points and five assists.

Archbishop McCarthy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. As for Donahue Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Archbishop McCarthy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-42 win against St. Brendan on the 14th. Donahue Catholic has also already played their next contest, a 62-12 victory against Everglades City on the 14th.
