The Bonsall Legionnaires waltzed into their match Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They blew past Julian 74-47 at home. The result was nothing new for Bonsall, who have now won four matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Bonsall found their leader in underclassman Kaimana Levy, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Levy has scored at least 25% of Bonsall's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Winebrenner, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Julian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenny Morytko, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Morytko set a new season high mark in steals with six. Another player making a difference was Carlo Martinez , who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Bonsall's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Julian, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bonsall will square off against Gompers Prep Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gompers Prep Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Julian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Monarch at 4:30 p.m. on December 28th.
