The Knox Redskins will head out to square off against the Rochester Zebras at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Knox has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with five straight losses, while Rochester will come in with seven straight victories.
On Tuesday, Knox didn't have quite enough to beat Glenn and fell 10-9.
Elise Wolff was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Addison Sponaugle was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Rochester and Manchester meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Zebras' pitcher stepped up to hand the Squires a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Zebras, who have now won five matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Bria Rensberger made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Wilson, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Darah Strasser, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Rochester kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manchester didn't got any hits.
Rochester pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Knox, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Knox hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. However, it's not like Rochester struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
