Softball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is North Newton's 11th in Last 13 Outings

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Washington Township, North Newton was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They blew past the Tri-County Cavaliers 10-0. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.

Sydney Rainford made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Caylee Oxley was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was June Busboom, who earned three RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

North Newton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

North Newton has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Tri-County, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-2.

North Newton has already played their next matchup, a 4-2 win against Lafayette Jefferson on the 15th. As for Tri-County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 5-1 victory against West Lafayette on the 14th.
