The Charlotte Catholic Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Richmond Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Richmond will be up against a hot Charlotte Catholic squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went Charlotte Catholic's way against Garinger on Tuesday as Charlotte Catholic made off with a 16-1 win. Considering the Cougars have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Evan Johnston looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits (and not a single walk).
At the plate, Caden O'Neill was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Hunter Conklin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Charlotte Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Richmond). They put the hurt on Union Pines with a sharp 11-1 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won six in a row.
Jason Walker spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Richmond got a big performance out of Landon Taylor, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Taylor is becoming a predictor of Richmond's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Jabari Douglas was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Charlotte Catholic pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Richmond, their record is now 7-5.
Richmond's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Charlotte Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .496. It's a different story for Richmond, though, as they've only averaged .357. Will they be able to contain Charlotte Catholic's hitters?
