The Syracuse Titans will face off against the Payson Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Syracuse is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Viewmont a 6-0 shutout. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Titans as it put an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Syracuse got a great performance from Haydin Giatras as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grace Thomas, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Oaklee Derrickson, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in two of her six plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Payson hadn't done well against Maple Mountain recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Payson won by a run and slipped past Maple Mountain 15-14. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.
Myra Andrew made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Andrew was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing Two bases.
In other batting news, Paisley Beckstead was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing Two bases. while going 4-for-4. Anna Marvin was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
Payson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maple Mountain only posted a batting average of .250.
Syracuse couldn't quite finish off Payson in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 3-1. Will Syracuse have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
