The Spring Creek Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the Lowry Buckaroos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Spring Creek will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Last Saturday, Spring Creek didn't have too much trouble with Hug as they won 53-34. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Hawks are ranked 65th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
01/18/25 @ Hug | 17 |
01/16/25 @ Elko | 16 |
01/11/25 vs Fernley | 24 |
01/10/25 vs Dayton | 19 |
It was another big night for Tayden Francis, who went 5 of 6 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds. His afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Scott Bylund, who posted nine points along with seven boards and four steals.
Spring Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Lowry came up short against Fernley on Saturday and fell 66-54. The Buckaroos haven't had much luck with the Vaqueros recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Spring Creek will need focus on slowing down Jaden Jimenez, one of several Lowry players who made an impact when they last played. He went 5 for 12 en route to 15 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Byron Jimenez, who put up 11 points.
Spring Creek is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Lowry, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Spring Creek and Lowry are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Spring Creek hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 58.5 points per game. However, it's not like Lowry struggles in that department as they've been averaging 55.2 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Spring Creek beat Lowry 65-53 when the teams last played two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spring Creek since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
